The Central Nova Scotia Tourism Development Society brings communities together to grow tourism, support local businesses, and share the region’s story in a way that inspires people to visit, stay longer, and connect.
Our Story
Explore Central is part of a bigger story, one built through collaboration, community, and a shared vision for tourism in Central Nova Scotia. The Central Nova Scotia Tourism Development Society (CNSTDS) was created when regional tourism stakeholders, the Municipality of Colchester, the Town of Truro, the Town of Stewiacke, and Millbrook First Nation came together to take a more coordinated, regional approach to growing tourism.
As the destination marketing organization for Central Nova Scotia, CNSTDS leads the promotion and development of the region as a place to visit, stay, and explore year-round. Our work is rooted in the belief that a great place to live is a great place to visit, and that by building on what already makes this region special, we can create meaningful experiences for visitors while supporting local communities.
From the powerful tides of the Bay of Fundy to vibrant town centres, rich Mi’kmaq culture, and four-season outdoor adventure, Central Nova Scotia has a story worth sharing. Through Explore Central, we bring that story to life, working with local businesses, partners, and communities to grow the visitor economy, strengthen tourism experiences, and inspire people to stay longer and connect more deeply with this place.
Regional Strategy
Central Nova Scotia’s tourism strategy was built through collaboration, shaped by the people, communities, and businesses who know this region best. As tourism began to recover and new opportunities emerged, partners and stakeholders from the tourism industry came together to take a more coordinated approach to growing tourism across the region.
Through workshops, interviews, and community sessions held throughout Central Nova Scotia, local voices helped define a shared vision for tourism. That vision reflects a strong sense of place, a commitment to sustainability, and a belief in working together. This process led to the development of the 2025 to 2027 Strategic Tourism Expansion Plan, which now guides how tourism is developed and promoted across the region.
At its core, the strategy focuses on building from what already exists. From vibrant communities and Mi’kmaq culture to coastal landscapes, events, and experiences throughout the year, the goal is to create meaningful visitor experiences that support local businesses and encourage people to stay longer.
The strategy also sets a clear direction for the future. Supported by the region’s tourism marketing levy, it outlines how partners will work together to grow visitation, strengthen experiences, and ensure tourism brings lasting benefits to communities across Central Nova Scotia.
