Explore Central Nova Scotia: Frontline Tourism FAM Tours

The Central Nova Scotia Tourism Development Society is pleased to offer a series of Familiarization (FAM) Tours for frontline hospitality and tourism staff within Colchester County. These immersive experiences provide firsthand exposure to some of the region’s top attractions, landscapes, operators, and hidden gems — helping tourism professionals build confidence in recommending authentic Central Nova Scotia experiences to visitors while connecting with others in the industry.

Tour 1: Tides, Trails & Hidden Gems

June 25th or June 28th 

Join Tide Rollers & Mudlarkers owner/operator Anna Hergert for an immersive guided journey exploring the landscapes, stories, flavours, and hidden gems of Nova Scotia’s Fundy coast. This 4-hour expedition introduces participants to a diverse collection of destinations between Truro and Five Islands, including scenic coastal viewpoints, geological wonders, local food producers, artisan shops, beaches, and cultural experiences — all located within easy driving distance of Truro.  See full details.

Tour 2: Ride the World’s Highest Tides

June 29th 

Experience one of Nova Scotia’s most iconic adventures with Fundy Tidal Bore Adventures. This thrilling Zodiac rafting experience takes participants onto the powerful tidal rivers shaped by the Bay of Fundy’s world-famous tides. Participants will race through rolling tidal waves, experience dramatic changing river conditions, and learn about the incredible tidal forces, local history, and natural environment that make this region internationally recognized. This high-energy adventure offers tourism staff a firsthand understanding of one of Central Nova Scotia’s signature visitor experiences. See full details.

Tour 1: Tides, Trails & Hidden Gems

Led by certified Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark Experience Provider Anna Hergert, this immersive FAM tour explores the incredible diversity of experiences found along the Fundy coast between Truro and Five Islands. Participants will discover dramatic tidal landscapes, Indigenous interpretation, flowerpot formations, scenic beaches, artisan food producers, antique shops, and beloved local eateries while gaining deeper insight into the stories and experiences that make Central Nova Scotia unique. This guided experience is designed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of the region while creating memorable firsthand experiences and valuable visitor recommendations.

  • Transportation: provided by bus

  • Number of Participants: 12 maximum/tour

  • Duration: Approximately 4 hours

  • Pick-up & Drop-Off Location: Fundy Discovery Site (103 Tidal Bore Road, Lower Truro)

  • Participants Need: water, hiking/outdoor boots, attire for all weather types, and snack encouraged​

Tour 2: Ride the World’s Highest Tides

Get ready for an unforgettable ride on the world’s highest tides! This exciting familiarization tour takes participants deep into the heart of the tidal action as the incoming Bay of Fundy tide transforms the river before your eyes. Climb aboard a powerful Zodiac raft and hold on as you race through standing waves, splash through churning rapids, and experience the raw energy created by the legendary Fundy tides. Along the way, experienced guides will share stories about the river, local history, wildlife, and the remarkable tidal phenomenon that attracts visitors from around the world. Expect excitement, splashing, laughter, mud, and plenty of unforgettable moments. No two tours are ever the same — every tide creates a completely unique experience.

  • Participants Need: water, appropriate attire for mud/wetness, change of clothes and a towel.
